Taking toe-to-toe to a new level.

The Agincourt in Camberley is the town’s oldest, most well-known nightclub, and most recently it was host to an electrifying 10-bout fight night, courtesy of Fight Club UK.

I was lucky enough to be invited along and learn more about this organisation, which was set up by Aaron Green, Steve Dossett and Pete Mercer (the latter of whom actually met each other in the ring, and have since become best friends – their combined record totals more than 200 professional bouts). Fight Club UK is an organisation tailored toward white collar and novice boxing or K1 fighters – the guys know how to train, coach and moreover respect their fighters’ abilities, helping amateurs get more experience in the ring whilst raising money for a cause extremely close to their hearts: the cerebral palsy treatment ward at Frimley Park Hospital.

The guys have held sell-out events in the past, and this one was no different – the atmosphere was raw, the audience becoming excitable as the evening drew on. When a night begins with a KO like this one did, courtesy of James Basket on this occasion, you know you’re in for a treat.

To say the bouts did not disappoint is an understatement – the boxing was professional, technical, seemingly far more skilled than the novice level we were expecting. And as for the K1 fights – a particularly pleasant surprise for me, being a huge mixed martial arts fan. Widely regarded as a more aggressive sport, the K1 fighters showed incredible heart and unbelievable courage stepping into that ring – fully padded up, of course – and went on to demonstrate to the audience the art of striking at its finest; beautiful leg kicks and knees out of nowhere. Blink and you’ll miss it – that’s K1, people.

The boys have raised thousands for charity so far, and their events are going from strength to strength. If you’re interested in being a part of the next show, or just keen to give boxing or K1 a go, the guys are always open to new members – Maximus Gym in Frimley and Beatbox Gym in Woking.
